Rafael Mendes Gomes leads CMGA Law's Compliance team and is one of the most experienced and renowned compliance professionals in Latin America. A former Director of Governance and Compliance at Petrobras, former Director of Risk and Integrity at Novonor and OEC, the holding company and engineering and construction company of the group formerly known as Odebrecht, respectively, and former General Counsel, Vice President of Legal Affairs, and Chief Ethics & Compliance Officer at Walmart Brazil, Rafael has 18 years of in-house experience and over 10 years in law firms.

For over eight years, Rafael led the Compliance and Investigations departments of two major law firms, advising over 100 different companies on compliance matters, including numerous investigations and remediation efforts related to Operation Car Wash, cases related to investigations and accountability actions for violations of the Anti-Corruption Law and the FCPA.
